Compositional Expermiments- Final Photos of Karter- Blanket

I have taken photos of karter. I did this by choosing where I would take the image so that I get a good quality photo. I also did this by looking at Anne Geddes style of working and taking some photos in this style. I have wrapped Karter up in a blanket and have taken the photos. I took the photos in different positions to get the different effects and to get the different facial expressions that he was making. I wanted to use natural light and a light coloured blanket to show his innocence and purity and tried to frame him so that he was in the centre and took up most of the image.

By doing this I wanted to acheive some images done in he same style of work of Anne Geddes. I also wanted to achieve some good images that I maybe able to use in my final peice. This relates to my theme as Karter is my nephew and I was doing love so it shows something that I love.

From doing this I have learnt new skills on a camera like making sure it is at the right focus to make my images come out clearer. I also learnt that changing the angle of the camera or the position that Karter was sitting in helps o bring out the best in the image.
Doing this has helped me by allowing me to experiment with the camera and also it has helped me to understand different settings on a camera.

I think that I will use either the last image of him sitting down, or the one where he is crawing, looking into the camera, as these images had the effect of him looking cute and innocent. I think that I will change the background though and maybe use some lighting and soft focus effects to get the final result that I want.

Compositional Experiments- Final photos of Karter- Grass

I have take more photographs of Karter but in a different way.
I placed Karter on some grass and took some shots of him just before he was about to move and while he was moving. I did this in this way because I wanted to have something that shows natural settings as I saw some of Anne Geddes work showed this. She inspired me to take this types of images of him.
This relates to my theme as it shows someone that I love.
From this I learnt how to create images using the setting around me.
It has helped me as it has shown me that I can use the natual settings around me to take some intresting and meaningful images.

This was hardest to get right as the shadows were hard to remove, as the sun was so bright, but again I wanted to use some shots that used natural light and showed him in a natural environment, such as a garden. I think I will use the one of him looking directly into the camera, as this will enable me to link with the other images that I will use. I will also try to work on lighting effects to remove the shadow and soft focus again maybe.

Compositional Experiments- Final pictures of Karter- Beanbag

I have taken more photos of Karter in this piece of work.
I placed a bean bag in a space on the grass which had good sunlight coming and which had a good background to it. Then I placed Karter on the bean bag and took some shots. I wanted to use the bright red bean-bag to frame Karter, as Anne Geddes has done using some other things such as eggs and roses. It wasn't quite as good as this, but it was the only prop that I could use. It worked best when the bean-bag seems to wrap around Karter and almost engulf him. I think one of these shots can be used and perhaps change the back to photos of red rose petals and try to blend these into the bean-bag.
This again relates to my theme of love, as it focuses on Karter, who is my nephew, and my theme is focused on family love.

nne Geddes- Ideas on composition

James & Eloise

These three photos by Anne Geddes show some interesting aspects of composition. The symmerical way the first  one works is an idea that i really like, as well as the fact that the lighting on the babies offers a clear contrast with the black background. The use of the natural world, with flowers and things used, is also an interesting way to frame the subject. In this case it is a rose that seems to hug the baby, and this is an idea that I am drawn to. As well as this, the use of soft-focus and the way that the subjects/babies are shown as the central piece of interest in each photo is something that i want to include in my own. It might be hard to find a cute costume, but I think that I can experiment with poses & locations to make Karter look as cute as possible.

Anne Geddes

Anne Geddes was an Australian born phoographer. She lives and works in newzealand.
She is known for her sylized depictions of babies and motherhood. Her images show babies and oung children dressed as airies and fairytale characters, flowers,or small animals. She descibes herself as a 'baby feak'.

Her motives and influences are that she had always been intrested in babies in general.
She believes that'emotional content is an image most important element'.

She says that colour distracts the image and that black and white shows the natural beauty of it. She chooses to use black and white photography to create and get more detailed images.

I have chosen her as I am useing the theme of love and I am showing this through using my nephew. As he is a baby I though that her work would relate to my idea as she caputes babies In different ways and this could help me to gather ideas to use for my final design. The thing that inspires me is that she creates intresting images of young children or babies. She also inspires me as I luike some of her work and I think I may use an idea that she has photographed to create my final design.

My final idea is going to focous on the aspect of love partically my nephew Karter
  • A portrait
  • full face potrait

dominick collage

In this piece of work I was trying to achieve a response to David's Hockney's style of work of he produced of his mothers face. I also wanted to achieve a better understanding of using photoshop and also and better understanding of how to position my images to create a piece of work in the style of an artist that I have looked at being my inspiration. The aspect  of his style that I was trying to copy was the part of his mothers face and how he re sized some of the images and where he positioned them to get and effect of the two sides of the face.  I have produced this image by changing some the size of some of the images and also changing the position of some of them to produce a image like this. This relates to the theme of love as it shows someone I love.

I have learnt that using photoshop can be quiet tricky but once you get an understanding of using it you can produce some good work. I also learnt that by just having 25  images you can do a lot with the photos to create an interesting image. Another thing that I have learnt is the way that you can position you images can grabs the viewers attentions as one side of the image might be different to the other.

It has helped me to understand how important formation is when creating an image in the style of another artists work. I have also learnt that that trying to do work in another persons style could be difficult but once you get the hang of it you start to gain an understanding of what they produce and when you produce something in the same style how it looks.

I think that my photography in the style of David Hockney's work was successful as it looks like the style he has used to create the photographs of his Mothers face. I also think I was successful because I took my time and concentrated on creating and building on my photo even though at times I came to some barriers that make me want to give up.

visual response orginal images

I have taken photographs of my brother to create a response to the artist I have chosens work. I did this by going home and taking images of just his face and hair. I also did this by making him sit in the same position for about 20 minutes to make sure that my image was done in the right position. By doing this I wanted to achieve about 18 photos of him and also I wanted to achieve that they all looked kind of the same and done in the same postion.
This relates to my theme of love because its my brother and its something that I love.
from doing this I have learnt that taking images in the same postion can be quite difficult as the person may move abit. I have also learnt that images of the face can be quite detailed and intresting to capture as you can capture different emotions through the persons experssion. This has helped me to over come barries of capturing an image of the face as it has shown me that it takes take to get a image that you would be happy with

karter photo experiment

in this collage i have imerged images of my nephew and tried to make it look like david hockneys work. this was my inspiration.

I used photoshop to make my images smaller and then put them together in a way that I think that David hockneys work would be. from this I wanted to achive a piece of work that looks like Davids Hockenys style of work. this relates to my theme because he is something that I love. from doing this I have learnt that I may not beale to do this because he may not stay still for long enough for me to be able to take my images to make my final peice of work. this has helped me to see that I may not beable to use him to create this peice.
